The Creative Economy has many types of creative and cultural practitioners and professionals, and this survey is to get a sense of your perception towards problem solving, entrepreneurship and whether Jozi is succeeding for our industry.
Please share your perspective with me as I work towards my DPhil in Digital Transformation at the Johannesburg Business School. My paper is titled: “A Systems Thinking Approach to the Growth of the Creative Economy of the City of Johannesburg.” The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete, is anonymous, and I am hoping to get 150 responses. I would greatly appreciate your input as the more responses I get, the more accurate the analysis and outcomes will be. I will share all research outcomes as soon as the research is complete.
If you have any questions, please email me on m9art2020@outlook.com.
Thank you so much wonderful creative movers and shakers of our Jozi!
There’s more and more people who are trying to empower others and there’s also those who only think about them self, so things are that balanced yet we are not not letting go of hope.. We trust that soon more people will get equal opportunities.
Thanks for your comment Mfanelo and yes – we need to have a common vision and all share a common goal for our industry – then our hope can have action and impact!!
In a multicultural society like South Africa there is no one size fits all when it comes to the arts and it needs. We have bureaucrats running the sector who have no clue what makes artists tick.
Many artists are marginalised and do not feel valued or acknowledged either through the lack of funding or in receiving awards. Our stalwarts have died paupers who were never recognised in any way.
That is why I am looking at systems thinking for ways to grow a very complex industry. The industry has sectors and sub-sectors, as well as the multi-cultural society we live in – the problem is complex, and a simplistic solution won’t help in any way. I believe we need more tools that enable creatives to function, rather than the current, and limited, funding model. The linear approach to growing our industry is part of the problem and cannot be the solution. Thank you for your comment! I will share the findings as soon as they research is complete and approved.
I think it’s not easy to get into the field and especially if one doesn’t have any contacts. It would be great to open the field up for newcomer
You are right! Networks and places that enable creatives is crucial. Creative hubs are a really important player in this! I will share the full research as soon as it is complete and approved 🙂
